He may look like a Fly-By-Night character, but he lights it up instead. Let's add this sweet Vampire Bat to the lighted ornaments collection. Great for Halloween, but cute enough, you'll want to keep him hanging around all year.

YARN
Scrap amounts of any worsted weight #4 yarn.
Purple
HOOK & OTHER MATERIALS
Battery-operated tea light
2 - 10 mm wiggle eyes (optional)
Craft glue
Yarn needle
SKILL LEVEL
SIZES/FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
2 1/4" x 6 1/4"
GAUGE
Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.
sc = single crochet hdc = half double crochet |
WINGS (make 2)
Row 1: With
purple ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 4 ch, skip 2 ch, sc in next 5
ch, turn (10 sc)
Row 2: ch 1,
2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 st, skip next two st, sc in next 3 st, 2 sc in
last st, turn
Row 3: ch 1, sc in first st, picot (ch 3, sl st in first ch made), sc in next 3 st, hdc in next st, picot, hdc in next st, sc in last 4 st, picot Fasten off leaving long tail for sewing.
Sew the wings on either side of the face on row 5.
ASSEMBLY
Loop a piece
of yarn or ribbon through top for hanger, secure.
Insert tea
light in center of magic ring, using last round yarn tail, weave tail around
last round, tightening to fit snugly around base of tea light, make sure on/off
button is still operational. Weave in all ends. Using photo as a guide, glue on the wiggle
eyes and use the white fabric paint to make the fangs, red fabric paint for the
mouth and black for the eyebrows.
